How blown wool is made
Blown wool on the market in Finland is divided into mineral and wood fiber insulation. Mineral wool is divided into stone and glass wool.
Wood fiber insulators are perhaps better known as pulp wool, which was a very popular marketing name when the product was manufactured in Finland.
Mineral wool in Finland is mainly made from by-products of other mineral wool, cutting strips, broken packaging, etc. A little bit of rock wool and glass wool are also imported to Finland.
Eko-Expert manufactures recycled stone and glass wool, utilizing additional batches of wool from the industry. Mineral blown wool is made by defibrating wool boards or mats into particles of suitable size, which are then packaged in a tight package. No other substances are added to the wool at this stage of production.
Pulp wool is made from recycled paper, which is mainly newsprint.
The paper is crushed to a fine pulp and about 20% of boric acid and borax are added by weight. This slows down the burning and molding process of the paper waste. The finished product is packaged like mineral wool and thus these products are ready to be delivered to the contractors.
The finnish market includes the following brands: Softwool rock wool, Rockwool, Paroc, Termex, Ekovilla, Softwool glass wool, Isover, Guardian etc.
